Team History and Significant Games
- Founding and Early Years: The Arizona Cardinals were established in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club in Chicago, making them one of the oldest professional American football teams. They joined the newly formed American Professional Football Association (later NFL) in 1920 and won their first NFL championships in 1925 and 1947.
- Relocations and Name Changes: The team moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1960 and became the St. Louis Cardinals. After several decades in St. Louis, the franchise relocated again in 1988, this time to Tempe, Arizona, and was renamed the Arizona Cardinals. In 2006, the team moved to the newly built State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where they currently play.
- Super Bowl XLIII and Recent Success: In 2009, the Cardinals reached their first Super Bowl (Super Bowl XLIII) under Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt and quarterback Kurt Warner. Although they narrowly lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, this appearance marked a turning point for the franchise. In the following years, the Cardinals made additional playoff appearances and established themselves as a competitive team in the NFC.
Notable Players
- Larry Fitzgerald: More than just a wide receiver, he is a legend of the team and the NFL.
- Kurt Warner: Led the Cardinals to the Super Bowl in 2008 as quarterback.
- Pat Tillman: A safety known for his service in the U.S. Army and his tragic death by friendly fire.
- Kyler Murray: The franchise quarterback since 2019, he is the only player drafted in the first round in both the NFL and MLB.
